Let's Catch Up
Hey guys, I've been really slack with posts (surprise, surprise), so I thought i'd catch you up with what's been going on for me.
On Friday I got back from a short but sweet holiday in Perth, WA, where I stayed with my bestie for two weeks exploring the suburbs, eating delicious local food and wine, and generally forgetting about reality. The power break was just what I needed to amp me up for the biggest adventure I've ever planned - CUBA. That's right! On Saturday I fly out to LA, then down to Mexico City, and finally ending up in Havana sometime on Sunday local time. Just like when I went to Alaska in 2012, Cuba has been on my 'bucket list' for a while now, and since the start of 2014 I've been saving hard (well as hard as a shopaholic could).
This really will be an adventure. When I get to Cuba i'm doing an Intrepid journey that covers most of the country over 15 days, and the fun part is, the accommodation is home-stay, with local families. I'm really excited about the opportunities to meet new people, experience the Cuban culture, and more than anything, the chance to take some beautiful photographs. I believe this is the perfect time to visit a country which is now undergoing the biggest political changes in decades, with the announcement last week that the US and Cuba will reopen embassies in each country, http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/69885297/us-cuba-to-reopen-embassies. Things are about to change, so i'm glad to have the chance to go before they do.
As well as heading to Cuba, i'm also heading to Cancun (Mexico), back to the US, and a couple of days in Vancouver before heading home (why go all that way and not!?). In the US i'm jumping on my second Trek America tour. This time to the Pacific West Coast, an area i've always wanted to visit, especially Portland, OR and Seattle, WA, but I imagine the whole tour will be amazing! While i'm away I'd love to say i'll be able to post regularly, but I know I'll be super busy and sleep may be a little hard to come by - I apologize in advance. When I get back i'll post up some photos and some stories - I bet there will be a few!
