Path.

The thing about living with creative people, is that their creativity tends to rub off.

Nothing has inspired me quite so much lately as heading to my flatmate Doti's exhibition opening 'Path' on Friday night. It didn't surprise me how freakin' cool it was, I've been watching Doti work on her creation for a while now. We had ceramic disks strewn across the lounge room floor drying out (there might have been more in the exhibition if it weren't for Ben & Harper - the cats - walking over a bunch of them), and then there was the night we sat and watched Tarzan on her laptop together and she managed to paint a bunch and watch the movie at the same time (SKILLS!). Not to mention the day before exhibition opening, when she was home so late I had to text her to make sure she hadn't fallen off her ladder and was laying on the gallery floor...

That time was spent weaving and connecting the ceramics together at the Momentum Gallery, and is just as important as the time spent molding and painting, in my opinion, as the final product is truly stunning. Each circle tells its own story, but then with the help of a connecting thread, is beautifully (the lighting in the gallery adds a new dimension) linked to all of the other stories in the room.

In her own words, Path is inspired by "...the trace created everywhere we visit, pause, play, live; and the traveled non places between. The lives we encounter in major and minor ways, noticed and unnoticed; create the ribbon betwixt. The threads that link the filament of our lives together, the trail before and after, future and past, that join at the point of us. Our everyday moments are the markers of time and place." I can't help but feel super proud of what Doti has achieved, from idea conception to the gallery opening she has worked hard to produce a gorgeous artwork. Now to see what she will do next...

Below are a bunch of photos from the opening, I have omitted any close-ups of the work in the hope you all pop down to see it for yourself.

Path is open to view at Momentum Gallery, Equilibrium, 10 Church Street, Nelson, until Friday 29 September.
